Bringing home our team's creativity

It’s no secret that the Wellcom team enjoy creative problems; whether it's for work, or a personal endeavour. So, when we proposed an open creative challenge (with only one simple guideline)—our team jumped on-board!

For the past six months, we’ve set a thought-provoking theme to guide creations for our Staff Instagram Challenge.

Over the course of a month, staff are invited to submit original work inspired by the theme, without limitation on the output. It doesn’t matter if they’re a designer by trade, or a hobbyist photographer. The challenge is an outlet for creativity in all forms—photography, design, animation, illustration and video included.

“More often than not, our teams work within a number of creative confines”, explains Head of Creative, Bud Peart. “By removing these hurdles, its fantastic to watch our team explore their personal style and be more experimental in their work; collaborating with other creatives to get the result they’ve imagined or something completely new.''

Over the last six months, we’ve challenged our team to share their interpretations of a range of themes, from the literal (Circles, Lines) to the abstract (Out of the Ordinary, Sugar).

A photographer by craft, Sean Thomas, is one of our most experimental contributors having submitted a range of diverse entries throughout.

Echoing Bud’s sentiment, Sean reflected on the initiative explaining, “It’s a great opportunity for our teams to experiment and collaborate with other creatives. Leaving as many rules behind as you like, it’s fun to explore different media formats; from short videos to stills and stop motions. Everyone has a bit of fun with it—although the 3D guys set the bar quite high!”

Melbourne creative, Hannah Spence, is also one of our most inventive contributors; continuing to surprise us month-after-month with her imaginative ideas.

“The Instagram initiative has been really enjoyable for me. It plants a little, personal creative seed in my brain each month that I can nurture, tend to and grow whilst working on my other projects.”

“Day-to-day we work collaboratively, making compromises with our team and the client. But with my Instagram work, I can let my imagination run wild and indulge in full creative freedom; often with mixed results!” expressed Hannah.
